Financial accountants perform credit analysis and auditing services for clients. They monitor daily cash flow and accounts payable transactions. Some accountants go on to seek finance accounting jobs in the bankingindustry, where they work as trust accountants, credit managers, and financial consultants
One field that is closely related to financial accounting is tax accounting. Tax accountants help to prepare income tax statements for corporations and individuals. Accountants with a legal background in tax codes are ideal candidates for tax accounting jobs
Public accountants provide financial services to individuals, businesses, and government agencies. Many public accountants are licensed CPAs (Certified Public Accountants). Public accountants perform a wide range of services for their clients, from consulting to auditing to forensic accounting. In particular, forensic accounting jobs are expected to grow in the next ten years due to increased Federal legislation laws. The new accountability laws are the government’s response to recent corporate accounting fraud scandals like Enron. Forensic accountants work for insurance companies, law offices, and in government regulatory bodies and agencies such as the military
Some accountants choose to pursue careers in teaching. Accounting professors may teach full-time, part-time, online, or evening classes. They generally hold a master’s degree in accounting or a related area
As a result of new technologies and new Federal legislation laws, accounting is a diverse and changing career field. Accountants with good qualifications and special licensures will be sought for corporate, legislative, and government positions. The job outlook is expected to grow faster than the average for all occupations
