Resume Writing References
When planning to write your resume, or resumes, it’s best to have a clear resume goal. What is your objective? What do you have to offer a potential employer? Once you decide upon what you want out of your job search then it’s easier to find those resume references that are best suited for the job you want.
The best place to start when laying out your resume is at the top with your resume heading. This tells your potential employer who you are and how to contact you in order to offer you your dream job. A simple search for resume headings will yield a host of looks and fonts, but when looking through them try to keep it simple:
Start with your name – It’s all about you, after all, so be sure to place it in the top-middle or upper-right so that even when it goes into a file folder it’s still the first thing that catches the eye when it comes out again.
Include your contact info – Address, phone and email so possible employers can contact you. Don’t bother with a fax number unless you’re sending it to a recruiter. Don’t use a post office box unless you have a specific reason not to use your address. If you have a website that’s relevant you can include that too.
Next you can list your resume employment history, but be sure to start with the most recent jobs first. Then you can list your education and skills. Again be sure to start with the most recent and relevant. When you do your search for sample resume references you may notice that some of them actually start with an objective or mission statement. This is not required, but can help focus the goals you have that you want your potential employer to know.
Writing a resume takes just a little focus and research and you can position yourself for the job of your dreams. Good luck!
